The unique life changing power of camp

Why come to camp? What makes camp life changing?
To be honest these questions are not best answered with words, diagrams, or brochures. The truth is you just have to experience it.  You have to experience Gods creation in such a unique way that only camp offers.  Experience the most unlikely group of people coming together and becoming a family. One can not truly describe with words all that camp is in a way that truly encompasses its greatness. Seriously, It really is something you just have to...Experience. You have to come and feel the way it changes your life or you will never truly grasp the power of camp.

Camp is...
Camp is so much more than the activities and the location. It's about the moments, the ones that make up the memories of your life. It can be big moments, like sleeping away from home for the first time, or making it to the top of the pamper poll and leaping off with arms stretched out for the bar. It can be in the little moments, like taking a walk on the trails and seeing the wild life and beauty of Gods creation. It’s the moments when a counselor makes them laugh so hard milk comes out their nose. It's that very moment when they realize these people are no longer strangers they met two days ago but they are friends that they will remember the rest of their lives.

At Camp Victory campers are able to get away from all the noise of life.  They are able to step out of their day to day routine and find new things out about themselves, try new things, build character, and start out on the journey to discovering who they are and their purpose in life.  They will step out of their comfort zone at times and learn that they can do more than they ever imagined.  One of the greatest things your camper will learn is that they are loved, by the staff but most importantly that their creator loves them with a love so fierce that nothing, absolutely nothing, could stop it, change it, or sway it.

Camp strengthens faith, build relationships, builds character, teaches respect, and changes lives. There's no place like camp for the summer!

Biffer

It's a favorite, an oldie, and a goodie!
Here's the scoop... from a Camp Victory Alumni and former staff member:

“MEDIC!”

Now there’s a sound that usually implies dire emergency.
However, that call is par for the course when a game of Biffer is in full swing.
Biffer is an oldie, but goodie at Camp Victory.

I played Biffer as a camper back in the 90s and the tradition continues today.
Here's how we play the game:

The counseling staff is divided into three groups. Some counselors are stations.

Campers try to find these counselors, perform a fun activity,
and get a stamp of completion.

Kids love this game because each station is different. The kids could be asked to do anything from reciting a Bible verse to singing a camp song to running around in a circle yelling, “The sky is falling!” It’s a crazy game to watch and often leads to confused observers who aren’t in on the fun and chaos that is Biffer.

Other counselors are Biffers and you’d better beware. The run around camp wielding socks filled with flour. If you are biffed with one of these gems, you’re down for the count. When biffed, kids must sit down and holler, “MEDIC!” The medics are the final group of counselors, who run around and save downed campers.

One of the best parts of the game for campers is the potential for winning big points for their cabin. Traditionally, each cabin earns points throughout the week and the winning cabin at the end of the week gets a reward. Often times, point totals for the week are in the low thousands. Biffer ends up being a make-it-up type of game because the first person to complete each station earns 1,000 points!  Bam! Win!

So remember, if you happen to be visiting camp and you hear kids yelling for a medic, see counselors running around in war painted faces, and have to dodge a flour-filled sock sailing through the air, you’ve just walked into a game of Biffer.
Welcome… and watch out!

Sunday evening

Wondering what your campers did after you left camp Sunday night?

They learned about all the different activities that they get to experience while at camp!

They also spent some time getting to know their cabin mates by playing some games,

and brushing up on respect values.

Painting cabin flags to proudly exhibit their
cabin name for the week was next on the agenda

(they also spent a little time painting their counselors as well!)

They ended their night with cabin devotions and were off to bed!
